UPDATED - PRESS RELEASE - ASSUALT OF JEVON BETTS - 06/09/2015    

     On June 9th at about 3:30pm, our agency received a call of a person shot in the 400 block of Walhausen Street. Officers found Jevon Betts, 18 of Charleston had been shot several times. He was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment. During the investigation, two suspects were identified. Warrants were issued for the suspects on the afternoon of June 10th.  Area law enforcement agencies were notified and officers began searching for them.

     On the afternoon of June 13th, information was received that the suspects were in Cape Girardeau. Both suspects were arrested by the Cape Girardeau Police Department. They have been identified as:

Lamarcus Williams, 18 of Charleston

and

Jadarius McCain, 19 of Charleston

Both Williams and McCain are currently in the Mississippi County Jail. They are being held on charges of assault 1st degree, armed criminal action and property damage with a $250,000 cash only bond. The victim, Jevon Betts, remains hospitalized in serious condition. This incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact the Charleston DPS at 573 683-3737.

     On June 9th at about 3:30pm, our agency received a 911 call of a person shot in the 400 block of Walhausen Street. Responding officers located

 Javon Betts, 18 of Charleston

 at 401 Walhausen Street. He had been shot several times.  He was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment and is in serious condition.  During the initial stage of the investigation, two suspects were identified. While searching for the suspects, it was believed the two may be hiding at 501 South Virginia Street. A search warrant was obtained. The suspects were not located at the residence, but officers did find approximately one pound of marijuana.

 The Charleston DPS is being assisted by the MO State Highway Patrol and the SEMO Drug Task Force in the investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Charleston DPS at (573) 683-3737.
