     On March 21st at about 9:30pm, the Charleston Department of Public Safety received numerous reports of gun shots in the area of Locust and Ada Streets. A short time later, our agency received a report of a person shot at 906 South Locust Street.

     On arrival, officers found a male behind the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. An officer administered CPR until the arrival of ambulance personnel. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment and was later pronounced dead.  An autopsy has been ordered by the Mississippi County Coroner. The deceased has been identified as:

 Jajhirien Caldwell, 18 of Charleston

     A second gunshot victim, Cornelius David, 24 of Charleston, sought treatment at an area hospital and was released. He is not cooperating with the investigation.

     The Charleston DPS and the MO State Highway Patrol are investigating the crime. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Charleston DPS at (573) 683-3737.  There are no suspects in custody at this time.
