The Charleston DPS opposes a reinstatement of the Assault Weapons Ban

Director Robert Hearnes recently sent letters to both of Missouri's U.S. Senators expressing his opposition to the reinstatement of the ban on "assault weapons" and "high capacity" magazines. Like many law enforcement professionals, Hearnes feels that the law is unconstitutional, unnecessary, and will do nothing to reduce crime or make our communities safer. The people who obey the law should not be punished for the actions of those who do not.
