PRESS RELEASE - TWO ARRESTED FOR RECENT SHOOTINGS - 09/18/2015
On September 12th at about 1:00pm, officers investigated a report of gun shots in the 700 block of Warren Street. Arriving officers found a vehicle that had been shot multiple times parked at 708 Warren Street. The residence is next to a neighborhood playground. As a result of the investigation, Mujahid McKinney, 33 of Charleston was identified as the shooter but Officers were unable to locate him. A warrant for McKinney’s arrest was issued. On the evening of September 17th, an officer observed McKinney on South Elm Street. After a brief foot pursuit, he was taken into custody.
McKinney is being held in the Mississippi County Jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond. He is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Armed Criminal Action, Assault and Property Damage. On 08/28/2015, officers investigated a report of gun shots near the intersection of West Marshall and Elm Streets. During the investigation, officers recovered numerous shell casings from the roadway, and discovered that a vehicle, a business, a residence and a church that had all been struck by stray bullets. Information received indicated Demetrion Owens, 23 of Charleston was one of the alleged shooters. A warrant for Owens’ arrest was issued. On 09/18/2015 at about noon, an officer arrested Owens. He is currently in the Mississippi Jail on a $200,000 cash only bond. He is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Armed Criminal Action.
